What a beautiful evening at the Lake Tahoe Dance Festival at Kings Beach!
My Mom originally saw the announcement on Facebook.
My Mom and her sister Robin, and Onyx' caretaker Cayla, and her mom Dianne, all went to the event.
Dancers from all over the country performed.
The platform for their dancing was at the water's edge, with the attendees watching from beach blankets with beach chairs and picnic baskets.
Here's a photo of the dancers' platform with Lake Tahoe in the background.
Yes! I was there!
The dancers were beautiful and of course so fit! The dances were modern and the music was perfect.
Everyone absolutely loved it. No cell phone photos allowed unfortunately.
Once back home, the cabin (and my Mom, Onyx and I), unaware of what was to come, rested peacefully for a night's rest.
However, at 2 a.m., my Mom heard a terrible crash downstairs in the living room, the sound of breaking glass not a comforting one!
Onyx was no where to be found as my Mom ventured down the stairs to the living room.
The glass tables closest to the attempted "barge in" were tipped over, 1 of 3 glass shelves shattered.
Two very old and large plants of my Mom's were on the floor. My Mom's Christmas cactus lost some branches but her Norfolk pine stayed strong, without a bent branch. Truly a miracle!
My Mom thinks a bear pushed against the window covering which actually pushed against the tables and knocked everything over.
First my Mom thought it was the wind, or Onyx knocking over the antique doll that my Mom has, but then she saw the torn screen in the front of the cabin and knew it had been a bear.
She promptly started closing windows.
Front window screen
When she raised the window covering on the side living room window, she didn't see a screen.
She took out Onyx' window guard and saw the bent screen on the ground, and shut the window.
The side door window screen was also pulled off.
Good Lord! This bear was on a mission!
Can you see the bear paw tears in both photos?
Cayla and her Mom had just been talking about seeing a young bear in our neighborhood again.
And Pete our other neighbor, said there was an attempt at one of his windows as well (lucky for him he has a HUGE dog).
My Mom was thinking that maybe we should adopt a dog, which Onyx is dead set against, bear or no bear.
My Mom's philosophy about animal companions is to let them come to us.
So, I guess we'll see if someone shows up at our door. Not the bear type please!!
Thanks for listening! It's comforting to know you're there. More adventures to come, hopefully not the scary type!
