Dog down!

Have I mentioned that the bear hasn't been back?  Thank God.

Have I mentioned that my Mom sent for 2 air horns from Amazon?

air horn

Mom's friend Becky said that an air horn is a good bear deterrent.

She should know, she's had a few, shall I say "encounters"?

My Mom doesn't want to rely on her intuition 100%, but, she doesn't think the bear will be back.

I really hope she's right.  She wishes we had cameras inside the house just to watch what Onyx was doing through all of the bear attempted infiltration.

After my Mom had cleared up all the broken glass, dishes, and dirt from the plants, and went back to bed, with no Onyx in sight,

my Mom checked under her bed.  Yep, there was Onyx, snug as a bug.

(It was hard to get a photo of her.  Just imagine a dark space with two yellow eyes staring back at you.)

Where was the Onyx that a few days before, had wanted to eat alive, our neighbor's dog, Booker.

Booker's Dad, Roger, stopped by for a visit with Booker.  This dog is a magnificent specimen and HUGE.

My Mom would love to walk him but she's sure she couldn't handle him; he's just too strong.

Well, anyway, Onyx was in her cat pen on the back deck and here comes Booker.  He eyeballs Onyx and starts barking.

Onyx, doing her very scary Halloween cat imitation is hunching, hissing and ready for a brawl.

My Mom asked Roger to walk away with Booker so that she could put Onyx in the house.

Not to be deterred, Onyx perched herself on the dining table right at the window to stand down Booker!

She might have gone through the screen but Booker had calmed down and became disinterested (more like he exhausted himself with the thought of a fight...just sayin).

Booker

The "disinterested" Booker

My point of telling you this is to say that my Mom thinks maybe Onyx was ready to fight the bear and maybe she's the one that jumped on the glass table and knocked everything over.

Either way, the sound of the crash is what my Mom thinks ultimately scared the bear away.  And that was that.

Thanks for reading our stories!  We appreciate it!
