Sitting down to write today, my Mom is wondering if anyone is really interested in our day to day lives.
People who have read our books seem to really like them and when my Mom has sent out messages and photos, people seem to like those too.
Frankly, I don't know what she's worried about, if it's worry at all. Maybe she just doesn't want people to be disappointed in her, in us.
I think we live captivating lives. I mean how many people hang out with a dog in spirit who's a pretty good storyteller?
How many people do you know who live in California in a log cabin?
How many people can say they have a 500 year old tree and a 900 year old tree in their yard?
Do you know many people who spend time with horses?
This is good stuff goin on here!
All of that aside, I will continue.....
Today's start was with my Mom's meditation group. Besides sitting and meditating, they are reading from a book by Thich Nhat Hanh called Zen and the Art of Saving the Planet.
After reading a few pages they discussed compassionate listening. I think I'm pretty good at it. I think most doge are.
When people speak to us, we may not always understand what they're saying but our stare is almost like having two sets of ears.
(The compassionate listening in this book is about a mindfulness of compassion, and listening with only one purpose, to give the other person a chance to speak out and suffer less.
I think that as dogs, we are really good at this, mainly because we can't add our two cents or comment after every breath that is taken by the speaker.
Later in the day, my Mom was speaking to someone who revealed that they have two children who have had cancer when they were younger.
My Mom had never known that. What suffering they must have experienced as a family. What suffering to worry that it might return.
My Mom thinks that we just don't know what people experience in their lives, and the suffering that they have had to endure.
But yet, here is this lovely person living their life a day at a time, after having such tremendous suffering,
and in a casual conversation revealing their profound suffering. I think my Mom was really listening.
And maybe our readers are really listening. And maybe what we share, eases the suffering of our readers. We sure hope so.

Be swift to Love,
make haste to be kind.”
