My Mom's biggest fear is to write to her heart's content and then lose it all with a misplaced stroke of the magic Apple "pencil".

She didn't get very far the day before yesterday, and yesterday she couldn't bring herself to try again.

8/31/24 iPad notes. Oh Lord, kind of explains the frustration.

But today, while she was speaking to her goddaughter Jennifer, Jennifer's fiancé Jeremy came on the FaceTime call.  

My Mom was telling them that she was typing her notes into her computer and Jen said "Oh, double work!"  

Hello?? Yes, my Mom knows that! 

Here we are, back again, teaching the old dog new tricks.  (No offense once again Mom.) 

Jeremy said, "It's just a matter of breaking the old habit, you'll get used to it".  Oy

My Mom has the romantic notion that her creativity comes from her brain, through her pen and onto paper. 

I told her that there's nothing romantic about doing double work! (Thanks for the corroboration

So, here we are, out on the deck, iPad and "pencil", with Prosecco, chips and olives.  

Oh, and my Mom took her "paper" notebook and marker, just in case.  

Jennifer's grandmother, Marie, went to nursing school with my Mom and one year they went to Italy together. 

At the end of each day, after their daily travels, they would have Prosecco, chips and olives at their different hotels.

My Mom regularly keeps this tradition while thinking of her friend.

On the heels of speaking with Jennifer, my Mom could clearly hear Marie's voice, 

encouraging my Mom to help Jennifer with some expenses she has, because she knows that if Marie was still alive, she would be helping Jen in any way she could. 

This was an easy decision for my Mom.

My Mom loved Marie and has maintained relationships with her daughters and grandchildren since Marie passed away.

Actually, Jen was calling to ask my Mom if she would read a passage at her wedding. Yes!

My Mom officiated at two of four of Marie's grandchildren's weddings and read a passage at a third grandchild's wedding. 

Being a part of Jen's wedding, will now make it four grandchildren whose lives my Mom is significantly a part of.

How's that for keeping a spirit alive! My Mom is connected to "spirit" as you might be able to tell.

Well, my Mom is using the "pencil", however, the translating from the written word to text, is a mess. 

There's a tremendous amount of editing to do, after all the "penciling".  

We don't think the iPad likes my Mom's artistic handwriting.
