My Mom said goodbye to Onyx and headed off to groom the horses.
This will be the first time without Mija, but as it turned out, it was ok for my Mom.
I think my Mom kind of mentally and spiritually came to grips with Mija's passing before the actual day and today she was not upset being in the pen without Mija.
However, there was another adjustment to be made.
After my Mom groomed Max, she headed to the pen where Scooter now lives with "Wiki", a mustang of the Kiger type!
My Mom is very sensitive to the dynamic between horses.
This is Max, the Elder Statesman at 40 years old (110.5 in human years) and strong as an Ox!
You may remember that Mija would under no circumstances let Scooter near her or my Mom when my Mom was grooming Mija.
So here today, my Mom was wary of what dynamic might be "ahoof" between Scooter, the senior, and Wiki the younger but not tremendously healthy horse.
Wiki has DSLD which stands for Degenerative Suspensory Ligament Desmitis. It is a progressive and painful condition leading to the chronic breakdown of tendons and ligaments in the horse.
Wiki is on pain management for this issue. Kristen says that it doesn't seem to bother him much!
We're really glad to hear that.
By the way, Kristen, the Equestrian Center owner and owner of the seniors and Wiki, said that Wiki was probably born wild and probably "broken" in not the most humane way, since Kristen said his muscles around his neck are "weird" as Kristen put it.
Her theory is that WIki was roped by the neck and flipped over at some point.
Good Lord.
My Mom did notice something but did her usual brushing and massaging on yet another beautiful horse.
Wiki was gentle with my Mom and patient as she examined his absolutely gorgeous mane which looked to have been braided at one time but neglected in a huge way.
My Mom suggested to Kristen that the matting that had resulted would probably have to be cut out.
We'll see what Kristen says about that.
Kristen said that Wiki's owner died suddenly from a heart attack and that she rescued him because apparently he had been neglected by a previous owner. Kristen did not want that to happen again.
She has such a big heart.
I've included a photo of Faralli at the start of this story and below too;
He's a horse that lives in the pen next to Scooter and Wiki.
Faralli is privately owned. He seems to be much better since he shares his pen with the horse Liam.
I'll be sure to share photos of Wiki and Liam too, as soon as we see them again.
This is Faralli, he's a beautiful boy and loved by my Mom's friend Dawn too!
We hope you enjoy our stories! More coming!
