My Mom's Mom (she passed away last year), used to say at this time of the year, "Christmas is at our throats!"
My Mom thinks that's hilarious and true, all rolled into one.
The phrase was Uncle Lou's, on the Schneider side of the family.
It's true though, not in the throat kind of way but in the "we're barreling down the days 'til the end of the year".
And it has been quite the year.
I'm not going to drag you through all that has gone on. You can do that when you have some time to look at our Blog, it began in June.
But this year is not over! And I haven't even told you some things from just the past week or so!
Let me start with today.
My Mom met with Patti Zorr our book marketer, to go over our plans for the next few weeks.
You do know that the whole point of my Mom's writing is to raise money for animal rescue right?
Well, that's why she's working with Patti!
Anyway, after Patti had updated some info on Amazon for our Christmas story "The Thinning of the Veil", Amazon shot back with an URGENT message that we have to update the format of the ebook within 5 days! FIVE!! WHAT??
My Mom was going to have to contact Wordzworth, our London book formatters (they designed all of the books, except my photo), to see if they could update Book 4's ebook, lickety split!
They did respond that they can, but the turn around is not 5 days, it's 5 "business days".So....my Mom told Amazon that (we think it's a robot communicating with us), and now we'll see how this all pans out.
We're not concerned.
My Mom figures that if her dreams and goals are "one with the Universe", everything will be just fine, regardless.
As Mom's friend Angela always says, "If it's meant to be, it will be."
So, that was this morning, BEFORE my Mom's first session with Tracy Hartway from Buenos Aires, yep, Argentina.
My Mom has to meet with Tracy (she's an Inner Space Technique practitioner),10 times, as a pre-requisite to Sharon Loy's Advanced course in animal communication.
As I understand it, through my Mom of course, these sessions are a deep deep meditation, to help unlock thoughts and feelings that may keep a person from being able to communicate with animals AND humans, I think.
Well anyway about that session, my Mom doesn't think it went that well. Yeah, bummer. She couldn't really "connect" with Tracy, and where she was going with her technique.
My Mom was a bit frustrated because she wanted to dive right in and clear up old stuff in her psyche (is that where that stuff is?).
She wants to get clear sailing in communicating with whomever. Knowing my Mom, she'll get there.
Oh, I forgot to mention that Onyx came into the room and had a nice sun bath on a shelf above my Mom's head while this was going on.
Now, I don't want to blame her for interfering but....Tracy did say that animal energy might interfere with the process. Oy.
Perhaps Onyx' "stuff" was released and SHE benefitted from the session.
I'll let you know.
At the ranch on Sunday, my Mom groomed Max (our 40 year old), 1/2 of Chief, none of Wiki and pretty much all of Scooter.
Max is standing strong but sort of pivots on his back legs, they're old. (40 in horse years is 110.5 years in human years!)
But, his coat is beautiful and thick for winter and he did enjoy carrots and Barn Bites.
Last week he let my Mom put her hand on his forehead for a very long time.
My Mom thinks that Max was relaxing into her hand and resting. My Mom was thrilled.
Our new groomee, Chief, was amenable again to having my Mom groom his right side, but once again, he wouldn't move to let her groom his left side. Someday!
But of course he loves the treats!
Chief is still giving my Mom the once over
I call Chief, "Whiskers" for short
Wiki is still not letting my Mom touch him (he moved in with Scooter after Mija passed).
She still is not sure what the issue is but she has a plan for next Sunday.
She's going to plant her feet, deep breathe and groom him using her mind, standing as close to him as he'll allow.
This idea came to her when she was meditation, so, maybe it is actually guidance from the Universe!
As to Scooter, he let my Mom groom him. He marched right up to her, with his side facing her.
He was ready!
He gave my Mom a nibble at one point (not sure if that was a love bite), and then when my Mom moved to his other side, he kept turning his head towards her.
Now I have heard, through my Mom, that when a horse turns their head toward a person, they are sort of hugging the person.
But Scooter was kind of turning, then turning, then turning again, like 4 times.
We figure it was an acknowledgement of some sort, we like to think an affectionate one.
At least he let my Mom continue brushing him.
And, she thinks it helped this time to give all the horses a few treats before getting down to business,
instead of just giving them treats afterwards.
She did give more treats at the end too!
I'm not sure if I told you that last time Scooter literally nudged (more like a push) my Mom with his big head,
to get out of the paddock!
She thinks the message was, "I WANT TREATS! Forget the grooming!"
All in all, my Mom grooms or tries to groom, 4 horses and gives treats to 9 others!
Her fan base seems to be growing!
And maybe so is ours, if people like our horse stories!
Wiki and Scooter waiting to see what's next from my Mom
Scooter, he's a lovely boy
And one other BIG thing!
My Mom's Fall Meditation Retreat happened!
She spent the day with her Sangha (meditation group), at THE MOST beautiful house right on Lake Tahoe.
The photo at the beginning of this post is the view from the beach.
There were about a dozen people at the retreat.
The theme was about honoring our ancestors.
Everyone brought photos or ashes or wrote a name (or 2 or 5) on a piece of paper and placed them on the "altar" area.
My Mom brought my ashes, a photo of her Aunt Virginia and a list of other family members,
Oh! Mija too, our sweetest most gentle horse.
So, we all were there.
There were 2 meditation sessions and a walking meditation on the beach (see photos below).
There was an outstanding lunch and plenty of time to visit.
It was a beautiful day, with really nice people.
My Mom said the lake would have been perfect for paddle boarding
It was sooo peaceful
And FINALLY, Onyx' sitter Cayla, took care of Onyx at lunchtime.
And....Onyx did NOT hiss or swat, she just gave Cayla the "stare down" when she came in the cabin.
Onyx wasn't happy about my Mom not being home, but she was okay with Cayla. Phew!
The Stare Down
I know this has been A LOT, A LOT, not sure if you made it all the way through but if you did, thanks for listening.
Christmas, or the Holidays in general, don't have to be at your throat, nor do the days have to roll like a barrel.
After all, today is it, right now, as you breathe your next breath.
Focus on what you Love, in as many minutes as possible, your Heart will open, automatically.
If you have any comments or thoughts, you can always text my Mom at 201-388-0241,
or email her at [email protected]
See you soon!
