It was a good long day at the ranch today.
It's kind of a workout for my Mom when she goes to see the horses. I think it takes mental strength to deal with so many different personalities.
It's not that she's shoveling poop or cleaning stalls. She's there to bring the horses joy or maybe she goes because it brings her joy.
I happen to think it's got to be a two-way street....speaking from experience as a non-human.
I'm not even alive and I get it. It's good energy engaging with more good energy.
Except maybe for Wiki, he's hard to figure out.The first day my Mom met him, he let her touch him, even brush him. Now....he walks away.
Wiki came to live with Scooter after beautiful Mija passed. But my Mom thinks he kind of bullies Scooter, who is his senior. And today with my Mom standing right there, it looked like Wiki gave Scooter a bite on his back!
My Mom yelled at him and before she left them today, she engaged telepathically with him. (Remember she's learning animal communication.) She told him that his behavior towards Scooter is unacceptable.
She told him that Scooter is her baby (he's 95 in human years) and that he shouldn't mess with him.
We're not sure he got the message but Scooter certainly gets it that my Mom loves him.
My Mom would love Wiki too if he'd give her a chance. Frankly, I think Wiki would rather be alone, or at least the favored horse.
As an aside, Scooter was lying on the ground when my Mom first arrived. It looked like he was either exhausted and needed a good nap or he went down for a roll around and couldn't get back up.
That's actually a possibility for an old guy.
Well, he did get up, thank God. That's Scooter at the top of this post. He's so beautiful.
Wiki and Scooter
Here's a check-in on everybody else:
Max (our 40 year old) let my Mom groom him (his coat is thick and beautiful), but it looks like he can barely move his back left leg;
Chief was actually eating when my Mom visited but he was happy to have a side of Barn Bite cookies.
He did let my Mom groom him and he spent a lot of time smelling her and looking at her;
Getting the eyeball from Chief
Faralli and Liam who board next to Wiki and Scooter were soooo happy to have Barn Bites.
My Mom doesn't groom them because he is not owned by Kristen, who owns the center;

Beautiful River and her baby Echo are moving to a different spot this week because Echo is getting weaned.
Gosh that has to be rough for them both.
Echo will go to a kind of weaning place to be with other young horses, then she'll come back to be near her Mom, not in the same stall though; Sophia's horses (Sophia is my Mom's former riding instructor), Percy, Faith and Julirio, were anxious for carrots, and thoroughly enjoyed them. Sophia keeps her horses in pristine shape from the top of their heads to their hooves;
Kirsten's Silver and Vincento were happy to have carrots, too. They also are moving.
Lindsay's new horse Whitfield (Lindsay also leases Choco, a very very sweet boy) will be moving in this month. He is a year old I think. He'll be in Silver's spot, Silver will move to Vincent's spot and Vincento will move to the other side of the barn. Lots of changes!
My Mom also saw Terry today, he is the farrier that takes care of lots of Kristen's horses. He's having surgery tomorrow, on his back. He has a great attitude.
My Mom wasn't sure why he was working today before he goes for surgery but he didn't see any reason why he shouldn't! He is one tough customer, as my Mom's friend Norman would say. We hope everything goes well.
I've added a couple of photos of the view of the mountains from the Nevada side (we live on the California side)!
The view from the center, in Nevada
We live on the other side of the mountain in California!
And here's one of Onyx, just for good measure, taken before my Mom left to see the horses.
Onyx ready to pounce on the bird on the patio, except our window is in the way.
Well, that's about everything for today! We hope you like our stories! And thanks for reading our Blog!
Much Love and gratitude for your support of our stories and animal rescue!
