We Are All Connected, This is Not a Solo Journey

March 10, 2025 We Are All Connected, This is Not a Solo Journey

March 10, 20259 min read

Here are two not so great things my Mom learned.

We're including them to raise awareness.

Rescuing and/or caring for animals is important work.

Ya know Wiki? (His photo is at the top of our blog post today.)

He lives with Scooter and he was born wild?

And let my Mom brush him once then didn't for a long time?

That Wiki.

Becca, ranch manager at Sheridan Creek, told my Mom that this sweet horse was rescued by Kristen (ranch owner).

The situation he was living in was: a small stall and he was standing knee deep in his own manure.

I know.

Hard to imagine how that could possibly happen.

Becca said that Kristen thinks this is why Wiki has the DLSD disease (Degenerative Ligament Suspensory Desmitis), from standing in that mess.  Poor guy.

It's a progressive painful condition in the joint above the hoof, kind of like the "ankle" area.

So, for Wiki to not want to be touched at times, is completely understandable.

We don't even know about food or if he just stood for days, weeks or months in that condition.

Remember I told you that horses can sleep standing up?

But come on, give me a break, give the horse a break, a moment to lie down and rest.

He couldn't have had a rest, there would have been no place for him to lie down!!!

Good Lord.

It's unimaginable but listen, the unimaginable occurs everyday in this world.

This is why my Mom and I support animal rescue and we strive to share LOVE in our writings.

We hope and pray for open hearts and minds.

We are all connected!

We are not taking a solo journey in this life.

Our lives depend on everything and everyone around us.

We cannot close our eyes to unkind, unloving ways of being!!

Ok, that was absolute dictation from my Mom.

The other thing my Mom wanted to tell you is that when cattle give birth to a male calf,  their testicles are cut off, a branding iron cauterizes the cut, and the testicles are, in some traditions, fried and eaten.

😳

Charmaine (see post 3/5/25) shared that story with my Mom.

She said that when she was a kid, she would hold the bucket for the "balls"and then run them up to her Grandmother for frying.

She said they were called "calf fries".

Well, my Mom almost drove off the road, hearing that one.

But why is my Mom shocked?

She eats beef!

And in some places in Europe and Asia, people eat horses!!!

When the reality of how animals are treated, is right there in your face, it's hard not to cringe.

And then, the awful thought leaves and life goes on, until there is change: an individual change, a cultural change, maybe even an industry change or a worldwide change.

Will it ever happen?

It would be a very different world.

I think it has to start with Love.

On that note, let me switch back to where I started on March 5th.

I wanted to share photos about Love.

Do you remember that Mallory is my Mom's yoga teacher?

And that Mallory will be the yoga teacher at the Horse Healing Retreat (Starr Horse Retreats) that my Mom is going to in Nevada?

Well, Mallory told my Mom that her Grandmother and Great Grandmother both loved horses!

Now that's a lot of horse history in one family!

As a matter of fact, her Great Grandmother drove a covered wagon, of course, pulled by horses.

Here's a picture of her.

Great Grandmother

Her name was Hazel Bowen.

She was a native Texan and horse handling expert.

And this is Mallory's Grandmother standing on her horse, Ol' Britches!

Grandma Earline Bowen and Ol' Britches

Seems Mallory has quite the horse heritage and a LOVE of horses runs in the family.

I'll bet it will be interesting to see Mallory with the horses at the horse healing retreat.

Yes, I'm going with my Mom.

Did I mention that my Mom's kindergarten friend Debrafran is coming from Florida to the retreat?

Should be awesome!

Here's another LOVE photo.

Pickles

This is "Pickles".

I think I mentioned him a while ago.

My Mom met him at Gina's (the acupuncturist).

Pickles looks so cool!

He is such a sweet boy.

He was with both parents who adore him.

Lotta LOVE there.

Here are couple of photos of our Onyx, in her cat pen.

Onyx

See her standing? Yep, she tips the cat pen over!

She LOVES, being outside, and now, she's rolling her pen like a ball!

Around the deck, down the stairs, off the deck.

She can't be stopped!

She's so smart.

Yes, she's in a cat pen.

We are against loose cats because of the coyotes!

And, if you know anything about cats, they don't listen!

So, in the pen she goes.

And she LOVES it.

She stays out there for a long time,

with my Mom sitting right at the window, writing usually, while keeping an eye on her.

Here is pretty Sasha.

 A definite look of LOVE

A definite look of LOVE

She is my Mom's niece Kelly's dog.

I wrote about Kelly in my Book 2, "RESCUED"

Kelly was on my rescue mission! Thanks Kel! ❤️

And, Sasha, as a puppy, is in
Book 4, "The Thinning of the Veil" (p.9 I think).

How about this one.

My Mom and I stopped for gas and met Kiki who has,

THE MOST BEAUTIFUL RED VINTAGE MG,

well, her Dad does.

RED VINTAGE MG,

Seems Kiki LOVES the new car!

My Mom does too!

Lastly, this is a painting by my Mom's friend Dawn's, Mom.

Dawn's Mom is Gloria Diane Bartels.

This is a painting to LOVE.
