Quiet Mornings

September 1, 2025 Regardless of The Season Quiet mornings begin at the dining table.

September 01, 20258 min read

It's September 1st, Labor Day, but in our house,

we refuse to accept the end of these past beautiful months of Summer.

Part of what made it beautiful,

was spending time with my Mom's long time friend, Ray.

My Mom has known Ray and his wife Patti, since the early 80s,

when my Mom's friend Ziggy, introduced my Mom to Patti's Mom, Adele.

Adele was a psychic.

My Mom spent a lot of time with Adele.

My Mom loved Adele, her counsel, and friendship.

She met Ray and Patti because of that friendship.

Adele has long since passed away,

but Ray and Patti have remained my  Mom's friends.

It's a long friendship.

Patti was unable to come to Tahoe,

but Ray accepted the invitation to visit and that he did.

My Mom's pace is a little slower than Ray's busy New Jersey life.

My Mom took Ray to all of her favorite places:

Lake Tahoe, of course! You can't miss it,

it's only 22 miles long, stretching between California and Nevada!;

Fallen Leaf Lake, my Mom's favorite,

and only 3 miles long!;

Lake Baron (everyone should have a lake in their neighborhood!);

A number of restaurants (of course!);

and gatherings with Mom's sister Robin (Ray manned the grill!),

Mom's brother Mark and his wife Barbie, and

Robin and Mom's friend Michelle;

Oh and a Reiki session for Ray (Reiki is a healing practice).

I think Ray slept through his session.

He must have been really relaxed;

Oh and Ray treated my Mom to a boat trip to Emerald Bay.

It was a beautiful day on Lake Tahoe!;

Oh! How could I forget!

My Mom took Ray and Mark to meet Wiki and see the ranch!

Ray was supposed to come out in April but as it turned out,

this Summer was the perfect time.

We were still getting snow in April!

Here are some of the photos during Ray's trip:

From Lake Tahoe's Incline Village:

While waiting for Ray to have his Reiki session,

my Mom walked to Kings Beach,

and spoke with the resident Master Gardener.

What love and tender care, by Heather, of all things growing.

Ray, the Animal Whisperer:

I have to share this because it's really quite remarkable.

Now, if you don't know by now, Onyx is a little tricky in her human relations.

She's not a snuggler (not even with my  Mom),

nor does she appreciate people touching her,

and definitely a kiss on the head, is out.

But, lo and behold, my Mom went out somewhere and left Onyx with Ray.

When my mom returned,

Ray and Onyx were on the back deck, together.

Ray in a chair and Onyx in her cat pen.

It was astonishing!

Somehow Onyx got in her cat pen (in the house),

and Ray put Onyx and her pen, out on the deck!

No touching involved!

No blood was shed!

That's why we think Ray is truly the animal whisperer.

And here's a photo of Ray with Robin's Alfie.

So, if you do ever come out to visit,

print this blog post and that's pretty much the itinerary.

My Mom's pace is slower than that East Coast buzz,

but boy, we are very happy here.

And I do think Ray was happy being here.

Maisy❤️
