The Cost of Caring
In my blog post of 9/23/25,
I talked about what my Mom spends on horse care.
What she personally spends, is a drop in the bucket, for what's required to sustain animal shelters and rescues.
My Mom was doing some general research, on what it costs per year to care for a dog or cat at a rescue.
How about $1500 per animal?? And that's without any extra health needs!!
Now horses are a way different category.
Big body, big cost of care.
An average estimate, (includes intake, rehab, feeding and bedding, vet care and boarding), is about $5,000.- $20,000. per horse, per year!
Good Heavens!
How do these organizations do it???
At the current royalty rate for the sale of my Maisy Star series, caring for even one cat or dog in a shelter or rescue, won't get us very far.

And if your faithful animal companion came from a rescue, then give thanks to them through a donation.
It will definitely help get a dog, cat, horse etc. adopted!
