As Uncle Lou would say,
"Christmas is at our throats!"
My Mom loved that comment,
and she sure loved Uncle Lou.
Yes! It's less than 2 weeks away!
There will be lots of giving going on,
and receiving for sure.
But the season seems too short if you ask me.
We think it's a special time of the year.
We'd like to see it extended.
There's something about feeling a sincere,
"Hope you have a nice holiday!",
or "Are you doing anything special for the holidays?"
People seem to step a little closer,
if only metaphorically.
My Mom regrets not "stepping closer",
to a friend,
to thank him for some fish he gifted her,
a few months ago.
She learned today that he passed in November.
That's pretty close,
to when my Mom was hesitating.
She thinks she should act,
with less hesitation in the future,
when showing someone gratitude,
expressed with Love.
Hesitating to Love is a shame really.
Hesitating to do a lot of things,
is probably a good thing,
but to Love or show gratitude?
Nah.
Better to Love than not.
Sounds like it should be a commandment.
Why hesitate?
To protect our own feelings?
To not get too close?
So we don't reveal our own tenderness?
My Mom's friend,
his name is Jim,
didn't hesitate.
He just marched right up to our door,
to present my Mom his gift.
No fear.
If he wondered if he would feel rejected,
he pushed that aside,
and expressed himself anyway.
So my Mom kept her feelings to herself.
She didn't share them with him.
But perhaps Jim felt my Mom's Love for him,
when she invited him in,
and sat and chatted with him.
My Mom could have continued this,
"circle of Love",
so to speak,
but she didn't,
(other than in her own mind).
Perhaps in this new year,
my Mom will hesitate less,
and find more reasons to express Love,
than reasons not to.
And Love comes in many forms.
It doesn't have to be mushy or gushy,
it just has to be genuine and authentic.
Showing another person,
in anyway you can,
that you care about them,
and appreciate the person they are.
My Mom feels so sorry,
that she hesitated in telling Jim that.
Maybe as he was reaching the end of his life,
he would have been comforted and felt more validated,
as the loving person that he was.
And as my Mom's Aunt Sis said to my Mom,
when my Mom visited with her,
a short time before she passed,
"See you around."
So, "see you around Jim".
My Mom says she'll try to do better.
With less hesitation,
and more bravery when it comes to Love,
Maisy❤️
