Keep Your "Gaze" on The Important Things in Your Life

December 8, 2025 Keep Your "Gaze" on The Important Things in Your Life

December 08, 2025β€’10 min read

Things sure do change quickly around here,

from one day to the next.

Why just 2 days ago, my Mom (Marybeth),

was watching a little squirrel,

eating a piece of seeded bread,

with such vigor.

He positioned himself on the branch of our Juniper,

that droops down near our back deck.

Then today,

a herd of raccoons,

(they are actually called a "gaze" or nursery),

appeared out of nowhere,

running up and down our Juniper,

searching in all the regular bread spots,

(for squirrels and birds),

for any piece of bread or seed they could find.

My Mom had just started a call with her friend Paula,

so she couldn't take any photos,

but did turn her screen around,

so that Paula could see the jamboree taking place.

It looked like a jungle gym,

with raccoons climbing,

and swinging from branches,

going underneath the deck,

and balancing along the low hanging limbs.

Now these were not little baby raccoons,

they looked like senior high schoolers,

getting out early from school.

There might have been a mama in the group,

but if so, she sure was trim,

probably from running after these rascals.

Onyx was having a complete kanipshin,

watching the raccoons from our dining table,

where my Mom was speaking with Paula.

The kanipshin was truly at its peak,

when one of these interlopers,

had the nerve to go inside Onyx' cat pen,

which was still on the deck.

Pretty soon,

2 of them were inside the pen inspecting,

with one guy on the outside,

trying to scale the side of the pen.

Btw, the pen is made of nylon,

with collapsible supports.

(You can see how it collapses,

by the photo at the top of this post.

Onyx, was in the pen, at the time,

and staring down a squirrel,

about 2 feet from her nose.)

Onyx was in the house,

at the time of the onslaught.

Well anyway, the pen started to collapse,

from the weight of one of the high schoolers,

and in no time at all,

all 4 raccoons beat it towards the back of our yard,

and climbed the fence to their safety.

My Mom doesn't think they will be back,

because of the cat pen "trap",

but who knows.

My Mom felt the same way,

about the bear who tried to get in our house.

Do you remember?

She thought the bear would not return.

And, the bear never did!

Just sayin.

Click here to read that story.

My Mom is however,

reconsidering our bread bits,

on the limbs of our Juniper.

I'm not sure what my Mom will do.

As usual,

my Mom turned to the great seer,

GOOGLE

πŸ™„

to see if there was a spiritual significance,

to having raccoons pop up out of nowhere.

(Nowhere? Hello? Mom?

We live in the mountains remember?)

Well, anyway, she searched and found this,

(at least the one explanation she liked);

πŸ™„

"Raccoons are messengers of change,

urging you to be clever,

and explore new paths...."

Ironically,

my Mom's conversation with Paula,

was about exploring new paths!

Paula is brainstorming with my Mom,

about new paths to take,

with my Mom's writing and book sales.

Texting with my Mom later,

Paula emphasized that,

the "exploring new paths",

was a reminder,

"multiplied by 4raccoons"!

Well, whether you choose,

to look at spiritual connections,

or the face value of things,

or anything in between,

we think,

there is meaning in everything around us.

What you choose to see or not see,

is your individual "Earth Walk".

I think my Mom has always looked a little deeper.

Maybe she looks for answers,

or a perspective,

that seem a little brighter,

than the reality before her.

Viktor Frankl's (neurologist,

psychiatrist, philosopher) book,

"Man's Search for Meaning",

is one of my Mom's favorite books.

Viktor Frankl spent 3 years,

in 4 different concentration camps.

It's a book my Mom read in the 1970s.

Dr. Frankl said that survival was aided by,

one's focus.

One could survive by seeing a bit of nature,

in the worst of situations,

by peering through the slat of a fence,

where a lone flower was growing;

by focusing one's thoughts on a loved one,

(not knowing whether they were still alive);

and that one's step,

left or right,

could determine their life,

or death.

So maybe today's "message",

if you will,

might be:

1. To look for beauty in your life,

(nature is filled with examples);

2. To love a living being,

or one who has passed; and

3. Before stepping left or right,

take a moment to ask your God,

the Universe, or ChatGPT,

which path would be best for you,

and those who may be affected by,

your choice.

So once again,

I've begun with my focus on one thing,

(a squirrel vigorously enjoying a bit of seeded bread),

and taken you on a journey,

which ends with some beautiful thoughts,

from a beautiful human, Dr. Frankl.

We're pretty clear of raccoons,

for now.

Maybe their message,

will take my Mom on new paths.

If you have any ideas for her,

or us,

be sure to let us know.

And don't forget,

the veil between the Heavens and Earth,

is thinner at this time of year.

Keep your eyes and ears open,

and be sure to support animal rescue,

by your purchase of Book 4, The Thinning of the Veil

It will make a great holiday gift,

for humans, and animals will benefit!

Much Love,

Maisy❀️
