Gentle Suggestions as Opposed to New Year Resolutions!

January 19, 2026 Gentle Suggestions as Opposed to New Year Resolutions!

January 19, 202611 min read

What a start to the New Year!

It began with my Mom's sister, Robin,

giving her a gift;

a very long time friend called my Mom,

to get their friendship back on track;

my Mom's friend Nadine,

dropped off,

a most wonderful New Year's Day meal;

and my Mom had

a delicious dinner,

with a friend, at Bruschetta,

a popular local restaurant,

on New Year's Day.

My Mom thinks that everything that happened,

at the turn of the year,

was an auspicious beginning,

to a positive, abundant,

year of Love.

We're happy to have you 2026!❤️

In our last post,

I spoke about my Mom,

wanting to move forward,

with our writing business.

The other 2 areas my Mom wants to work on,

are, eating well,

(more vegetables, fruits and water),

and more physical activity.

Besides Nadine,

my Mom's friend Patty,

also shares her food creations,

with my Mom.

Today, Patty dropped off a vegetable soup,

along with a beautiful fruit salad,

on top of bibb lettuce,

with a yogurt/orange dressing.

And even more recently,

Patty made my Mom a beautiful jam-packed salad.

And Nadine followed that,

with a cauliflower au gratin,

and salad with vegan dressing.

Not too long afterwards,

my Mom's friend, Michelle, dropped off,

some delicious sausage minestrone soup!

So, it seems the Universe is listening to my Mom.

Friends who cook are providing my Mom,

with nutritious homemade food.

My Mom was always the Queen,

of buying prepared food,

(e.g. Cafasso's Fairway Market, in Fort Lee,

and A & S Italian Market, in Wyckoff),

when we lived in New Jersey,

but here in Lake Tahoe,

those types of stores simply do not exist.

Don't think for a moment that my Mom mooches off these friends.

Returned containers have money in them.

Of course there is much hemming,

and hawing from these friends

but let's be realistic,

my Mom is really paying for a service.

And boy does she value it.

I've probably mentioned it before,

but I'll say it again,

my Mom is not a,

"spend the day in the kitchen " person.

She'd rather spend the day at our dining table,

or her desk, pen and notebook or a book and post-its at the ready.

Thank you Universe for solving my Mom's,

food prep issue!🙏❤️

To add to my Mom's quiet time,

in the morning,

she has begun using,

her new coloring book,

as a meditative tool.

It's cool,

her new friend Stephanie,

gave it to her for Christmas.

Meditation

She is amazed as to its effects.

My Mom said,

that once she starts concentrating on coloring,

in the lines,

her breath slows and she becomes more present.

She is in the moment.

She said it's very similar to standing next to a horse,

and brushing the horse.

Her breath slows with each stroke.

Thanks Steph!🥰

To add to the morning mix,

my Mom decided to try drawing in the lines,

of the meditation designs,

with her left hand.

it's an exercise of the brain actually.

My Mom has written with her left hand in the past,

for various exercises,

they related to creativity,

but she doesn't recall what she was working on at the time.

Oh wait, something just jumped into my Mom's head,

as I was writing this.

She said that,

when she was working on cases as a Judge,

if she was trying to figure out a solution to an issue,

sometimes she would make notes with her left hand.

She hoped it would expand her mind,

to a new thought about a problem that wasn't resolving.

Now she's using her left hand in these colorings,

to hopefully:

gain some new perspectives,

explore creative thoughts,

and process unresolved issues.

Slow-going on this left-handed coloring thing

Slow-going on this left-handed coloring thing

My Mom thinks this is cool.

She's hoping she'll have some mind expansion,

as to our writing i.e. come up with,

some new and improved audience expansion,

and marketing ideas.

The other thing is,

from what she has read,

processing some unresolved emotional issues,

might be part of the payoff,

of the left hand use.

There are probably benefits for left handed folks,

who use their right hand!

Let me know if you try it!

The bottom line is, my Mom wants to "move",

in All ways.

And another way is strength training!

My Mom observed/participated in,

a Seniors' Crossfit class locally.

Man oh man are the women in that class strong!

My Mom said that one of the women can "deadlift" 207 lbs!!

I don't want to embarrass my Mom,

(maybe just encourage her to keep at it?),

but she couldn't lift 25 lbs. over her head,

(this is not deadlifting).

Another woman who has had back surgery,

can deadlift 150 lbs!! What??

So, just sayin, my Mom has a long row to hoe.

But she likes it,

and Brett says, her Pilates instructor says,

"Let's get you moving!'

I'll keep you posted on my Mom's progress.

The class is 3x a week.

I'll be happy (and I think she will be too),

if she goes twice a week!

So....my Mom is off to a great start!

My Mom told me,

she read that most New Year resolutions' people,

give up after day 9!!!

My Mom is quite strong-willed (have you met her?),

so, I'll bet she'll keep up this diet change,

(more veggies, less living beings i.e. meats and fish)

and more movement, in all ways!

In terms of our writing business,

we're working on it,

i.e. connecting with animal rescues,

to speak at, partner with;

publish our book about my Mom's horse involvement,

(after all, it is...the year of the Fire Horse,

in the Chinese zodiac!);

and broaden our audience base in any way we can.

You can help by sharing our blog posts,

and website,

with everyone you know who loves life and animals.

We're like a well-oiled machine over here,

or something like that,

e.g. "full throttle",

"hitting on all cylinders",

"full steam ahead",

or if you have an EV (electric vehicle),

"running at full electric thrust",

or "full charge".

Whatever it is,

we've got it. (We think.)

And that "9" day statistic?

Well, that's a lot of hooey!

You do you and do the best you can!

We're rooting for us and you!❤️

Woohoo!
