My Journey Across the Rainbow Bridge Was 10 Years ago

January 1, 2026 My Journey Across the Rainbow Bridge Was 10 Years ago

January 01, 202611 min read

10 years ago, I crossed the Rainbow Bridge.

It was a bit rough getting to that point.

My Mom (Marybeth),

had to take me out quite a few times each night.

That was quite a trick,

since we lived on the 4th floor of our building.

My Mom,

was the most patient Mom a girl could ever have at her side.

My Mom knew my days with her were coming to a close.

She loved me whole-heartedly,

until the last second of my life.

She was the best Mom.

But you know what?

If it is at all possible,

(and I'm going to say it is)

we are even closer now,

than when we were physically together,

for almost 12 years.

After my passing, my Mom was really really sad.

She called to make an appointment,

with Michelle Santana,

her psychic medium friend.

During that session,

Michelle told my Mom,

that she should write about me,

through her grief,

and so she did.

My Mom said that when she began writing,

my voice popped into her head and so....

I began writing the story.

It's only natural that my Mom's writings began that way.

This way,

I could control the narrative,

and surely my view of things would be the best view.

After all, I'm an Aries too!

My Mom didn't fight me on it,

she just went with the flow,

and away we went.

All our books started with hard copy prototypes,

through the company "Blurb".

This first photo is of the prototype for Book 1.

Maisy Star

This is the very first page of our very first book

This is the very first page of our very first book

The first book,

was about my Mom bringing home Pepper, our cat.

Pepper was with us for about 8 years.

She passed about 9 months before me.

That was a very tough year for my Mom,

it was 2015.

Here's adorable Pepper, posing for a treat!

Our second book, RESCUED,

was about my Mom's Dobermans, Babe and Rina,

and then me.

We were all rescued by my Mom,

hence the title.

Maisy Star Rescued

Thirdly, was A Cat Named Gray.

Boy oh boy, what a guy.

Gray was the sweet mild-mannered reporter type,

who never wore his heart on his sleeve.

My Mom wished he could have been with us longer,

but that was not meant to be.

Maisy Star A Cat Named Gray

Next was The Thinning of The Veil.

This book started out as a "six weeks before Xmas" book,

and all about hoping Gray's spirit,

would come back in a big loving way.

Instead, the story took an unexpected turn,

for a little pussycat named Ellie.

Our 5th book is Checkers in the Time of Covid.

This darling little pussycat, Checkers,

stayed with us for a few months,

which turned into a longer stay because of Covid.

We would have kept her forever.

I called Checkers "Checks" for short

The last of our 6 books,

is about Sylvester The Cat.

Sylvester's stay with us was brief,

but the love he shared with my Mom,

was the deepest.

He was a sick boy,

that my Mom didn't want to see as sick,

until it was too evident to ignore.

Sylvester was quite possessive of his catnip

After Book 1, my Mom's goal,

was to have 6 books ready to go out into the world,

as soon as she retired.

My Mom decided to self-publish through Amazon,

because she didn't feel she would be prepared,

to have her books printed and then shipped by her.

She couldn't imagine storing printed books,

and then marching to the post office,

for shipping, every time there was an order.

So, she hired Lisa Reppert, Esq.,

to help with copyrighting,

and hired a book formatter (from London),

to get her books ready for uploading to Amazon.

It was a lot a lot,

and because she was a full-time Judge,

her attention to our books getting published,

was at night, after dinner and on the weekends.

Oh, and by the way,

beginning in 2020,

my Mom also started writing what is now our blog,

but it was DAILY.

My Mom thought that her friends,

family, colleagues and co-workers,

could all use a little boost,

during those troubling times,

so she began sending out texts,

of uplifting photos and words.

She thought this might be of help to people,

during this shutdown period.

She spent about an hour and a half each morning before work,

putting this together.

My Mom's list of people,

grew from about 50 people to over 200.

Once we moved to California,

and my Mom hired Patti Zorr,

our book marketer,

my Mom's texts became a blog,

which is now featured on our website.

marybethrogersauthor.com

We sure hope people still see these posts,

(that used to be texts),

as uplifting and "feel good" messaging,

because that's our intent. Oh, btw, they're written by me,

Maisy Star,

(with my Mom's influence of course).

Patti Zorr,

is the one who really pushed our books,

out into the Universe.

She created our website and creates all of our Social Media posts.

She also uploads all our blog posts,

to the website,

and sees that people who "follow" me,

receive them.

So, as you can see,

I've been a constant presence in my Mom's life,

even after I passed.

Every time she writes,

it's "in my name."

Her voice is mine and vice versa.

We've become more equal partners I'd say.

My Mom thinks we were always partners.

I was quietly by her side,

as she navigated her law practice,

(one of my beds was in her office),

and then when she transitioned to her Judgeship.

My Mom has bigger plans for our stories,

whether in book form or blog posts.

She wants to really work hard this new year,

to widen our audience,

and be able to do more for animal rescue.

We hope you'll help us to spread the word,

(our words, whether in books or blog).

Please send us ideas,

as to how you can help us grow,

and spread our wings so to speak.

And because this is the year of the Horse,

in the Chinese zodiac,

we're super excited to continue,

physically working with the horses,

at Sheridan Creek Equestrian Center,

and supporting Gentle Giants,

Bergen County Horse Rescue,

and Between Horses and Humans,

through our website.

We'll add your rescue organizations,

to the known rescue organizations,

on our website,

just let us know who they are,

and how you know them.

The year of the Horse,

brings with it,

opportunities for innovation,

and bold action.

We will ride that horse energy,

all year long with your help,

support and love.

We look forward to it.

Thank you for celebrating me,

Maisy Star.

Together with my Mom (Marybeth),

we'll reach new heights and deeper connections this year.

We Love you!

Happy New Year! 🥂🥳

Love,

Maisy and Marybeth❤️

or text her at 201-388-0241

with your ideas for "spreading" the word,

and for adding your rescues to our website!❤️
